Tucked beside Big Daddy’s and marked with just an inconspicuous door, Cutter’s is easy to miss. Most people walk right past the place without ever noticing its existence, which makes a trip into the interior feel like a journey into a warm, secret hiding spot — a secret hiding spot filled with mature gay men riffing on their workdays, local history, gardening and more.
Cutter’s is larger than it appears from the outside, offering enough room for a lengthy bar, a few tables and a small stage that occasionally hosts a live band. During New Orleans Saints games, food is available by donation, with proceeds going to a different local charity each week. Each month, the bar features the work of a new artist on its walls. During the daily happy hour, from 3 to 7 p.m., patrons can snag well drinks for $2.50 and wine for $2.75. Visit on a Monday afternoon and you can pair those drinks with free red beans and rice. Visit on the first Friday night of the month, and you can enjoy pasta salad and fresh artwork.
