The Candlelight is one of the great neighborhood bars and music venues of New Orleans. You wouldn’t guess it from the inside, as the interior – concrete walls, bare banes floors, a few fold out tables and some gambling machines – as all the atmosphere of Mars. Whatever – the Candlelight is still awesome. It regularly aggregates all of the characters who make the Treme so fascinating, and it’s the home base of the Treme Brass Band, some of the finest troubadours in the city. Said band performs on the regular here on Wednesday nights around 9pm (and we mean ‘around’; don’t expect the show to start on time). It’s a popular gig, one that tourists have started to discover, but the popularity is justified, as this is a banging show in a classically New Orleans venue.
