Located on the campus of Tulane University, the Amistad Research Center is an independent, non-profit library/archives with a mission to collect, preserve, and provide access to documents that chronicle the history of ethnic communities in the United States, social justice and civil rights movements, and race relations. The Center traces its history to an 1841 U.S. Supreme Court case involving the transatlantic slave trade. Today, the Center houses the papers of educators, artists, lawyers, clergy, writers, musicians, business owners and various organizations, as well as a research library, oral histories, and a fine arts collection. Exhibitions held on a rotating basis and tours can be scheduled by contacting the Center.
