French Quarter Courtyard Tours
Since 1946, The Patio Planters of the Vieux Carr has sponsored Caroling in Jackson Square. One of the French Quarter events held to fund that sponsorship is the Secret Gardens of the Vieux Carr, when Patio Planters opens magnificent courtyards of the French Quarter for a special weekend tour October 15 and 16, 2011 between 12:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. (different courtyards each day). This highly anticipated event offers the allure of private and historic gardens otherwise closed to the public. The self-guided walking tour reveals how garden designers take advantage of small spaces, and provides access to the cool and private hideaways suited to the Louisiana climate in styles of the early Spanish and French architecture. Individual tickets are $20.00 each per day (children under 12 free), and will be available for purchase at Creole Delicacies, 533 St. Ann Street (at Jackson Square), and at French Quarter Gem & Lapidary, 527 St. Philip Street (near Decatur). For more information, to become a member, or to make a 501(c)3 donation, visit patioplanters.org.

Caroling in Jackson Square
Sponsored by The Patio Planters of the Vieux Carr since 1946, Caroling in Jackson Square is a truly moving holiday tradition held every year by candlelight on the Sunday before Christmas. Jackson Square brims with candle-lit faces and song-lit spirits as high as the spires of the St. Louis Cathedral. Sunday, December 18, 2011, 7:00 p.m. (gates open at 6:30 p.m.) Free and open to the public. Candles and song sheets are provided. Helpful hint: To keep your candles lit, trim a green, plastic soft drink bottle for a candle holder and wind guard.
